Barb Fyvie
Canmore
Biography
The rugged mountains of Western Canada and their extensive forests have long been the source of this artist's creative output. In her most recent series of work, Barb Fyvie departs from the purely representational and focuses on evoking a mood of hope in the midst of environmental change. She depicts forests as an extension of humanity and the trees and icons of our time. Fyvie works in oils and acrylics on site and in the studio. She is an artist who strives to reflect her own experiences in clear, concise artistic statements revolving around the use of the rhythm, colour and light while sharing with the viewer the process that underlies the creation of each work.
Born in Calgary, Fyvie now lives in Canmore, Alberta. She earned a BFA from the University of Alberta in 1984. She has participated in various artist-in-residence programs including Num-ti-jah Lodge in Banff National Park and the Brewster Tours and Transportation Columbia Icefields artist program. She was a member of the Burns Visual Art Society in Calgary and is currently a member of the Canmore Artists and Artisans Guild.
Fyvie's work is currently displayed in private and corporate collections in Canada, the United States, England and Italy.
