Biography

Rowan Hill was fortunate enough to be born into a family who supports creativity and loves a good adventure. Her early years were spent living in a variety of exciting locations from the moors of Scotland to the mountains of Colorado and Western Canada. While attending Prescott College in Arizona Rowan fell in love with the stark beauty of the desert. Here she studied geography, spending long hours in the dark room developing her partiality for strong shape and value. Rowan then moved to the Canadian Rockies and obtained a teaching degree from the University of Calgary. She settled in Canmore with her husband in 1993 and took up a paint brush. First with acrylics and now with oils, Rowan combines her eye for design with her excitement for colour to produce bold and confident images. Attending a variety of workshops from acclaimed artists fueled her passion for painting while starting a family. As a member of the Canmore Artists and Artisans Guild she has participated in numerous group and juried shows. Rowan paints from a studio she shares with two other oil painters, where feedback, guidance and sanctuary are readily available.
