Biography

Born in Switzerland in 1948, Hubert has led an eclectic and dynamic life. After graduating from the academy of art in Lucerne, he headed off on a three year travel excursion. During this time he worked and lived and traveled through almost 70 countries, experiencing more in a few years than most people in a lifetime.

Though his travels he has had many pivotal experiences with mountains and the people that live near them. During this time in the Golden Triangle, in Laos, Hubert walked the mountain passes with the mysterious Hill Tribes of the region. He got to know many of them personally and shared in their connection to the mountains. Six months later in Japan he was shocked to see a TV news report showing his friends being gunned down from helicopters, by violent warlords fighting for control of the area.

While riding on a steam train in the fearful Atacama Desert at the border of Bolivia and Chile, a beautiful formation captured his desire. After being dropped off in a small border town he made his way to the top, with little equipment or preparation. He didn’t understand the power this mountain had on him at the time, but now, more than 20 years of life experience later he is exploring that power through his art.

Hubert has developed an interest in these great formations and an empathy for the power and beauty that can be found there. Each one of his works reveals this power and presence through the canvas and the paint, striving to bring you closer to the experience.
